Rinnai Tankless Reviews

点点娱乐this rinnai tankless water heater has mostly great reviews. customers of the rinnai tankless unit love that they have a household that never runs out of hot water anymore. users report that there is a noticeable difference in energy savings.

several users mentioned that rinnai offers a better ‘minimum flow rate’ than most other brands. while most individuals only consider a high ‘maximum flow rate’, when purchasing a tankless water heater, ensuring a lower minimum rate for a tankless heater is also extremely important for a great ‘heated water’ end result.

one customer mentioned that, on school days, there are three showers running at the same time and that his family has never had any issues of not having heated water.

the most consistent statement made by users of this product was that the temperature stayed the same throughout an entire shower, however long that shower was. with regular hot water heaters, adjustment of the knobs is necessary to ensure the same heat through the whole shower. there is no need to adjust with the rinnai tankless unit.

overall, the rinnai r94lsi seems to be a consistently good buy for the money. installation costs can get high for those hiring professional help, as with any similar unit. above all, research and go by what the household needs over anything else to ensure years of satisfaction.

Water Heater Leaking? How to Diagnose and Fix the Problem Fast!

3点点娱乐If you have ever walked into a utility room and stepped in a pool of water left from a water heater leaking, you know how horrible of a feeling it can be. Follow the steps below to try and correct the problem, or at the very least stop the water from flowing and get it cleaned up before it starts to cause problems such as mold.

firstly, the best thing you can do it stop the water coming into the tank by following the cold water line that runs into the tank. it should be un-insulated (the black foam insulation is for the hot water leaving the tank) and have a valve within the fist few feet of the water tank. make sure to turn the valve clockwise to turn the flow off.

once you have found and isolated the water tank from the incoming water, it is a good idea to either turn off the gas that feeds the burner or shut off the power from the breaker. typically power for these systems is 240v, so it will be a double breaker. in the even that it is a gas system, the same type of rules typically apply as did with the water inlet. make sure that the gas is off by checking the pilot light on the bottom which is normally behind a small metal plate to protect it from anything that could put it out. turn the pilot light setting to off to be sure as well that the gas to the system is off.

点点娱乐from here you should clean up as much of the water as possible before it can soak into other materials such as drywall or carpet, and drain the tank by finding the plastic valve on the heater (it is a garden hose connection which is convenient for routing the water into a shower, bath tub or sink) and turning it counter-clockwise to open the flow and allow the water inside the heater to drain. leave the tank for around 5 minutes so that as much of the water gets out as possible. at this point the water should have stopped leaking as water heaters typically leak from the pressure that they are under. if the water leak continues you should call a plumber as soon as possible since the leak is most likely somewhere in the plumbing around the tank, or a hole lower in the tank. if the leak has stopped, make sure the area is as dry as possible and if you would like to investigate the actual cause, you can turn the water inlet on to see if you can find the water dripping out.

be aware when you are trying to find a leak in a water tank that often there are issues with calcium building up in the tank itself which can cause corrosion, and that the actual tank is covered in spray foam type insulation to keep the heat in, so it will likely not be visible if it is the tank.

Electric Tankless Water Heater Reviews – Top 4 Brands

2点点娱乐Electric tankless water heaters have been around for a while now. They are the new standard throughout most of the world and just now becoming popular in North America for various reason:

unlimited hot water, reliability, safety, and environmentally friendly are the main reasons why people choose tankless heaters over the conventional gas tank heaters. if electric tankless water heaters are so great, why haven’t they caught on?

点点娱乐well, there are still many older homes that require expensive upgrades to the electrical wiring and water supply plumbing. why bother spending a thousand dollars just to save marginal amounts of money over the long run when you can just replace your old water-heater with another tank water heater for just $100?

点点娱乐still, the features above are enough to make people feel that going tankless is worth it. i rate the 4 top brands below based on their ability to deliver what consumers expect out of tankless heaters.

1. Noritz

a company originally based in japan with a vision of changing the way hot water affected the environment. they truly believed in their vision and so do their users. they are the world’s #1 leading manufacturer of water heaters. their products are built at the largest manufacturing plant in the world and feature a variety of industry and government certifications for being environmentally conscious.

点点娱乐from what i know and what i hear from many home consumers and plumbers in the industry, they have the best products and the best variety of products to provide hot water heating for every possible situation.

2. Chronomite

they specialize in electric tankless water heaters for mainly commercial and industrial applications. they were the first to patent microprocessor technology and their tankless water heaters deliver hot water in a record time of only 2 seconds.

3. Stiebel Eltron

点点娱乐founded in germany 1924, they are the #1 manufacturer in germany and also very popular throughout the world. they also have a large variety of product sizes from the ultra-compact mini-tankless water heaters to the large size units for busy households.

4. Bosch

点点娱乐another worldwide leader in home and commercial appliances, bosch is well known for having the latest technology in their products. their tankless water heaters have been known to handle massive water flow demands and provide unlimited hot water for even the most strenuous of households. their units can deliver hot water simultaneously to multiple showers and household appliances like dishwashers and laundry machines without any drop in temperature or water flow.

点点娱乐i highly recommend these top 4 brands because they have gone out of their way to deliver the best product possible. unlike other cheap or flimsy brands, these units are high quality and performed just as advertised by the manufacture. they offer lengthy warranties and years of enjoyment.

other manufacturers have been known to sell less expensive units but not without hidden costs. some of them don’t work 100% unless you purchase pricey add-ons. others will not heat the water unless you turn on your faucets at 100% water flow. many have bad service and don’t honor their warranty. others have numerous fine print in their warranties and operational manuals excluding them from all liabilities should their unit malfunction in anyway.

i highly recommend you to choose from one of the reputable brands above. there is no cost too great for peace of mind. a faulty electric tankless water heater could cost you thousands in water damage, electrical damage, and untold amounts of stress in the time and hours you spend trying to repair the damage.

Let’s Talk! Hot Water Heaters 101

1点点娱乐Did you know that your Water Heating is the second largest expense in your home accounting for 14% to 18% of your Utility Bill. I didn’t make that up. That’s according to the Department of Energy (DOE).

点点娱乐most people are unaware of the choices you have in hot water heaters (hwh). most often you go by a recommendation from the local plumber or big box store. in fact, how many of us actually think about what kind and size of a hot water heater we will have installed. better yet, the energy source. usually, the only time you think about it is when you walk down stairs to your basement to do a load of wash and there is water all over the floor. at then it’s damage control and how are we going to take showers!

a conservative estimate is the average household spends between $400.00 and $600.00 per year on hot water. again, not my statistics (doe), i tend to think it is more. the energy source has a lot to do with it, the number of people in the household and the amount of water being heated. another fact is that approximately 27 million households have hwh’s over ten (10) years old.

with a little planning there are many choices.

Here are the most common.
a) Storage Tank Hot Water Heaters (HWH)
b) On Demand Tankless Type
c) Indirect Tankless Coil
d) Indirect Tank Type
e) Solar panels w/storage tank
点点娱乐 f) Heat Pump

most consumers are familiar with (a) storage tank hwh. typical fuel source is gas, electric, oil, propane, geothermal and solar. each one of these has pros and cons. a lot depends on your budget and where you live geographically. the most inefficient one of the bunch would be (c) indirect tankless coil. these were most popular on the east coast. the engineering is simple which i won’t go into. the theory behind it is that the hot water boiler would be running seven months a year to heat your house so during that time one would not use considerably more btu’s to heat the domestic hot water as well. this was okay when fuel oil was a buck ($1) a gallon!

let’s stick with the most popular hwh (storage tank type “a”) and give you some tips on how to be energy efficient and practical as well. and do not forget periodic maintenance.

Energy Efficiency

点点娱乐1) the most common energy source would be electric and natural gas. natural gas being more energy efficient and having a higher recovery rate.

点点娱乐2) insulate the hwh with an insulating blanket. these can be purchased according to size. you can also use duct wrap or batt insulation and a lot of duct tape. this will help the standby loss. (the temperature drop of the water sitting in the tank idle)

3) insulate the hot water piping minimum 10 feet from the hwh. if the heater is in an exposed basement insulate all the hot water piping.

4) set the temperature of the hwh to 120 degrees.

5) install low flow shower heads and faucets throughout.

6) wash your clothes with cold water whenever possible.

点点娱乐7) purchase energy star appliances.

Periodic Maintenance

点点娱乐1) check the pressure and temperature valve (t&pv) every six months. this is the safety valve to prevent the hwh from blowing apart. it should not be leaking, capped or be rusted. i advise having a plumber give it a once over until you are familiar with what to look for.

2) check and replace the anode rods when needed. this keeps the hwh from corroding.

点点娱乐3) flush a quart of water or so from the hot water tank every few months to remove any sediment.

Tankless Water Heater F.A.Q.’s

Frequently Asked Questions

Can anyone tell me about the Titan Tankless Water Heater?
点点娱乐 I want to switch my old tank water heater to a new tankless unit. I have read they save money on your hot water bill and provide hot water that never ends (a girls dream). Everywhere I look on the Internet I see the Titan Tankless Water Heater with glowing reviews. Can anyone tell me about it, tankless in general, gas or electric?

    • ANSWER:
I have a tankless water heater in my home that I bought from http://www.titantankless.com and it is the best thing ever. It provides endless hot water so you can shower all day if you want and it never runs out. My electric bill went down about 35 dollars a month also as it only turns on when you activate hot water. A tank model turns off and on all day even if you don’t use it. The water is also safer as a tank can develop rust, germs and sediment in the storage tank. So you will find your hair and skin improves! Although gas can provide hotter water it is very unsafe. Rheem and other tank companies just recalled like 50,000 gas tankless units for carbon monoxide poisoning in homes. Its like car exhaust entering your house!! here is the recall link for gas units: http://www.tankless-recall.com/. Gas is also super expensive now…outta control!!
I have electric and it works great and is much safer. It was easy to install! I can fill my tub all the way and never worry about hot water running out. I can have 10 guests over and not worry about the hot water running out!!!
I did a lot of research and the largest selling unit and one that I use is the Titan Tankless N-120 Water Heater. They invented it and have been in business 20 years.
All of the information on the unit and helpful things to help you decide are on their site at http://www.titantankless.com
Please be careful about gas models as they are DANGEROUS!
      I would stick with electric.
What is the best water heater to purchase?
Our water heater failed and needs to be replaced. Unfortunately, the reviews online for Lowe’s and Home Depot products are hit or miss, more so misses. Anybody suggest certain brands or where else to check? Not looking at spending much over 500.00 and must be electric.

    • ANSWER:
I suggest one without all of the “bells and whistles.” Meaning the smart energy boards. Things have gotten so advance you almost have a water heater with a laptop on top of it. I had one with a “smart board” and the more things you have….the more that can fail. Stick with just the basic water heater that we’ve had for years. I traded mine in for a Bradford White. They are good units. I had an electric one and the new Bradford ran in the mid 0 for a 50 gallon. Just hook the pigtail electric cord from the previous heater to it and plug it in…it’s that simple. If you have a Lockes Supply around…they have pretty good prices. And of course in a perfect world you would drain it a couple of times a year and replace the anode rod……but hardly anyone does. Try going to a contractors store…not a lowes, home depot or any of those. They usually carry brands that make all sorts of appliances but don’t specialize in any one. Kinda like Whirlpool……they make everything……but master none. I will buy Bradford from here on out.
What water heater tank should I get?
I currently have old AO Smith gas water heater tank that is probably lasting more than 20 years. I moved in to the house so it could be older than that. I don’t see any leak or crack, but I do know that there is small rust on top of it. When my friend came in, he suggested me to get a new one. I too agree, beyond 20 years old, perhaps 30 years old water heater tank is bit too risky to keep.
However, I really don’t want HomeDepot one, GE product, as I seen so many bad reviews that they won’t last very long. Sears seems to have Kenmore which is decent but I heard that their customer service is horrible. Lowes seems to be fine, but Whirlpool also got several negative reviews.

点点娱乐other option for me is to contact local plumber and see if they have anything in their hand. in this case it would be like ao smith. the question is, although i love current ao smith, i really don’t know how modern ao smith operates. i have heard that ao smith makes long lasting water heater tank. however, i do have seen negatives reviews as well, such as company ignoring warranties. i have no idea where to move from here.

i’d really like to hear people’s opinions and suggestions, or even experience with the certain brand.

    • ANSWER:
I would keep it. Your AO Smith was built to last a lifetime, or pretty near. The current inexpensive water heaters are only good for about five years ( this statement was from a property manager). So, what you are in for not “a” new water heater–but an unending string of water heaters. If your present one breaks down after five years, that’s a lifetime of a new one. You can do a lot of good by draining your unit and removing scale. Sand off the rust you see and touch it up. I don’t think you will get the same quality no matter what you pay.
You might also look into new technology like solar (new?) where you will pay much more but may get better quality into the bargain.
Have you heard of State brand water heaters? How do they compare to other brands?
There are hardly any consumer reviews for these. This is the preferred brand of the company that is facilitating my Energy Effiecient Mortgage. They told me that State is “builder-grade,” in other words, these are the water heaters installed in many new homes. They also told be that they have a failure rate of less than 1%. The price I’m quoted is 75, 50 gal, gas, energy star with a new flue and permitted, up to code installation. Any thoughts?

    • ANSWER:
state waters are as good as any–i am a plumber (ret) of 30 years.
i have sold and installed a many of them.
i do belive your people are over charging you by several hundred dollars.
Would a new tankless water heater system work for my family of six?
点点娱乐 Looking to add on to my home and researching different options. One idea I have is to go with a tank-less water heater system. The home will have three full baths, around 2700 sq ft after all is said and done. My question is would a tank-less water heater system work with our family of 6 and home?

    • ANSWER:
Pop into your local library and look for last month’s issue of Consumer Reports. They reviewed all the domestic hot water heating options available and gave you the pros and cons of each. I found it quite interesting and they brought out points that I hadn’t thought of.

For a family of 6, it’s going to take a unit that is able to produce a lot of hot water. You might be better off using several smaller units than one big one. And insulating your hot water pipes will help a lot also. The hot water in the line stays hotter, longer and people aren’t running water down the drain waiting for the hot water.

Electric Water Heater F.A.Q’s.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is an electric water heater more efficient than gas because less of the heat leaks out?
An electric water heater can be completely insulated. How much of a factor is that, in how efficient it is?
In other words, to what extent does a gas water heater leak heat because it can’t be completely insulated? Is it only a very small percentage, or is it a big factor?
点点娱乐 Nobody understands my question. It’s only about the part of the tank that isn’t insulated. It can’t be insulated because then the burning gas would burn the insulation.

    • ANSWER:
You can make your electric water heater more efficient simply by turning it OFF when not in use.
Should I replace my electric water heater with a gas one?
My electric water heater is only a couple years old, but I hear that gas heaters heat the water faster and cheaper. Are the potential savings significant enough to justify replacing a fairly new electric model?

    • ANSWER:
点点娱乐 In the long run, you will save money by switching.

Perhaps you can sell your fairly newer electric water heater and cut your initial loss somewhat.

What regulations/laws must be complied with in the design of an electric water heater?
Just wondering…I have seen so many electric water heaters on the market and I just want to know if they are safe with the excessive amount of power that is used to heat the water.

What regulations/laws etc must be complied with in the design of an electric water heater?

    • ANSWER:
Of course they are safe, however electric water heaters are not so efficient. Get a natural gas/propane thankless water heater.
They use about 3000+ watts i think and are 220 VAC.

I don’t know the regulations that go into making one though.

How should I transport a electric water heater safely?
I am buying a electric water heater 50 gallon: can I transport it without damaging it on it’s side in the box (horizontaly) or is it better to transport it upright (vertically)?

extra question: should i shell out an additional 0 bucks for the wirpool energy smart water heater or just go with a regular one? thanks

    • ANSWER:
点点娱乐 1. Lay it on its side, gently—best to put the end on the tailgate, then lift the other end and slide in–and pull it out the same way. If you lay it over halfway, then tilt it, it will bend the outside cover of the tank-though it won’t hurt anything, just put a ding in it. Sold water heaters for couple of years.

Look at the energy ratings and estimated cost on the yellow energy guide which must be clearly visible. Also look at tank life. Most energy efficient heaters, especially electric, are not that much more efficient cost wise to justify the added expense. Tank warranty is important, you can about guarantee that if the tank warranty is 5 years, it will leak before year 6. So figure in the annual operating cost found on the yellow sticker, plus the expected life. I operated the state Energy Star program, and sold water heaters. I bought the cheapest one available, because the energy savings did not outweigh the excessive costs of the more expensive models. But that was a couple years ago–and using more efficient gas water heaters..

What should water temperature be during no sunlight periods, using a solar/electric water heater?
We have solar water heating, but during off-peak hours, the electric water heater点点娱乐 kicks in. ( Two hours in the evening and 1.5 hours in the early morning) The water is 140 degrees. Is this normal? I know the thermostat can be turned down on regular water heaters, but does it need to be this hot because of the solar? Water is scalding hot!

    • ANSWER:
I would think it needs to be turned down. They recommend a maximum 125 to prevent scalding.

i have only worked on a few solar systems but they all used a “regular” water heater to supplement the heat and store the warmed water. they were just plumbed differently.

点点娱乐usually they were set lower and on all the time. lower so they did not try to heat the water going through the solar panels.

but it is near impossible for us to tell you how yours is set up, the logic of the system. we know nothing about it, how it is plumbed, what controls, even how it works normally.

i don’t know if you have two tanks or one and the single tank is for both storage and heating.

the main reason people turn up the temp is if the water is hotter you use less. so at 140 you might get three showers first thing in the morning, but at 125 degrees maybe only two without time in between heating water.

i say try it. i can’t think of any reason lowering the temp would be a problem, except for capacity as mentioned.

      Good Luck.

Anyone using a tankless water heater? Any good? How about price compared to utility savings?
点点娱乐 tankless water heaters: worth the extra cost? how long will they last compared to traditional tank water heaters? any problems?

    • ANSWER:
点点娱乐 We installed a tankless heater this summer to replace a gas hog (so we thought) tank. It does take a longer time to get hot water to the master bath which is at the total opposite end of the house from the tank (lots of water going into our septic system). Our gas consumption has actually increased (therms used) since installing – very disappointing. I should have stayed with a tank for this house. If the tank were located in the center of the house instead of the basement, it might be different. One plus is that it is very quiet compared to the exhaust blower on the old tank system.

Why does water heater shut down after a while?

I live in an area with very hard water, and have had to replace two water heaters in 6 years due to sediment buildup. If I were to put in a whole-house water softening system, would that solve / reduce the hot water heater sediment problem? (That would not be the only reason for installing the water softener.) Thanks.

    • ANSWER:
点点娱乐 A water softener extends the life a just about all fixtures; water heater, faucets, shower heads, sprayers. And they keep nasty stains from forming on shower walls, tubs and sinks. Drain the tank and flush it every few weeks. This will also extend the life of your tank

Natural Gas Fireplace vs. Propane Gas Fireplace

Regardless of where you live, in a lakeside cottage, a townhouse, vintage Victorian mansion or an urban loft, there s always a room for a natural gas fireplace. Suitable and simple to use, gas fireplaces nowadays tender a wide range of design to ensemble both your daily life and the fashion of your house. There are many things to consider if you are thinking about the advantages of putting a propane gas hearth against a

Initially, both of these products work of fuel rather than wood or electricity and they can be considered a reliable source of heat through a power outage. If compared to a normal wood burning heater, they are equally cleaner considering the quantity of dust the hearth spreads all through the area. In spite of all these similar attributes there lie a few substantial dissimilarities.

When you are decided to buy your own gas fireplace, you have to consider carefully the both options and choose what is really suitable with your personal condition before creating a purchase. In a lot of houses there ll be a city gas association for ovens or gas stove. If that is the condition in your house, then putting a recommended device known as a natural gas fireplace might be the effortless way to take. In addition to this, this device is very reasonable in price and very easy to use.

Certainly, this is not the case at all times and the cost of a natural gas fireplace widely depends on the room you live in. will absolutely be the best means to go if a natural gas fireplace is not available in your vicinity. Make sure to inspect your entire local region and search what suppliers are obtainable. Various suppliers are eager to visit your house to load your tanks when you don t comprise a city gas association.

Another trouble with a natural gas fireplace is that it s difficult and it cost lots of money to carry, but if the suppliers of natural gas are within your area there is not a hassle after all. Moreover, when evaluating the price of propane fireplaces and natural gas, the most inexpensive is the first one and so makes it the superior sensible option. If the transportation or distance issues and the prices don t make any distinction to you in that case there are lots of other distinctions you have to consider before choosing on a natural gas or a propane gas.

The superior quality about a natural gas fireplace is that it flames cleaner, therefore it do not leave any residues from flaming compared to a propane gas. A propane fireplaces have tendency to leave a light oily film on glass and other faces. Furthermore, several people argue that the most environment friendly device is the natural gas fireplace as it is directly taken from the dirt, whilst propane gas should be processed. These things are all considered, but the price and location will normally be the choosing factor if distinguishing the correct type of hearth for your house.

Frequently Asked Questions

what brand of gas water heater would you recommend?
I need to replace a very old gas water heater – it’s still working so no emergency. I am just starting to do some research, but find it a bit confusing. I want to stick with gas and I want a reasonably efficient model but I don’t want to change to tankless (doesn’t seem to be worth it).

any recommendations? some websites seem to recommend bradford white, but others vary with their recommendations a lot. any firm view on the subject here?

    • ANSWER:
点点娱乐 Like the other poster said. I have heard that Bradford White and Rheem are good brands. However I would not spend any extra money to get a particular brand. They are all good for the most part and will give you years of service.

I bought a Reliance brand gas water heater点点娱乐 at Home Depot 18 years ago. It’s still going strong with no problems. It was the cheapest one they had and it only had a 5 year warranty. You pay extra for the heaters with the longer warranty. Not worth it in my opinion and experiance.

you can also pay extra for electronic ignition and energy star models. again i would say not worth it. natural gas is cheap and should remain cheap for the near future. you will be hard pressed to save enough energy to pay for the added cost of these units. the standard unit is going to be more efficient than your old one.

I hear a sporadic clicking noise in the chimney area when my gas water heater runs. Can it be fixed?
The gas water heater vents through a chimney that shares space with a cold air return. With 2 vents in the space, the clicking noise can be quite loud near the vents. I’ve had the installer return and he replaced my fast-recovery water heater for one with much lower BTU’s, thinking that the chimney wouldn’t get as hot so less expansion/contraction but I still get the noise (of course not while the water heater was running while the plumber was there). The plumber told me that was the only thing he could do. Is this true?

    • ANSWER:
The gas water heater点点娱乐 vents through a chimney that shares space with a cold air return.

this sounds totally unorthodox; you really should get an hvac professional to look this over. i as well would question the credentials of someone that would install venting in this manner, provided your description is accurate.

if your fresh air is in fact coming in contact with the exhaust venting, this would certainly create a greater temperature differential leading to more expansion and contraction of the metal when the unit fires, and explain the severity, and duration of the noise you are hearing.

can i install a timer on my GAS water heater to save money?
I have a gas water heater, and have done some searching for water heater timers. It appears they’re only available for electric water heaters. Is this true or does anyone know of a model that works on gas water heaters?

    • ANSWER:
Unfortunately, my research indicates that the timers are only available for electric water heaters. It makes sense though, considering how they work. If a device that did the same type of thing for a gas water heater was available, it would probably end up costing about as much as a new water heater, only because you would most likely need to have it professionally installed. Gas pipes would need to be cut & re-attached etc.
